Ötztal crossing

Venterrunde, across the Ötztal on skis

Over the highest peaks in the Ötztal Alps in five days. The Venter Runde is a real ski tour classic and is one of the most popular crossings in the Eastern Alps.
The five-day tour, which starts in Vent, leads through the central part of the Ötztal Alps and thus to some of the highest three-thousand-meter peaks in Tyrol.


Requirements:

  • safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
  • Experience in walking with skins and mastering the hairpin bend
  • Surefootedness
  • Condition of approx. 6-8 hours

1 day:

Meeting point at 12 noon in Vent in the Ötztal. Ascent through the Niedertal to the Martin Busch Hut 2501m. Dinner and program briefing.

Day 2: Similaun 3606m

Wide glacier floors lead over the Niederjochferner to the beginning of the summit ridge. Here it goes over the ski depot and over the west ridge to the summit. Departure to the Similaunhütte 3019m.

  • Ascent: 1100hm / Descent: 600hm
  • Walking time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 3: Finailspitze 3516m

Past the Ötzi discovery site to the Hauslabjoch. Ski depot at the foot of the summit structure. On foot over the north ridge to the summit. Descent over the Hochjochferner to the Schnalstaler glacier. Ascent to the Schönen-Aussicht 2842m

  • Ascent: 700hm / Descent: 900hm
  • Walking time: 4 hours

Day 4: White ball 373m

Ascent to the “butt ice cream”. Later a short descent to the Hintereisferner. Ascent via the long Ferner to the Hintereisjoch 3471m. Another 200 vertical meters over the southern flank to the ski depot. Over a short ridge in easy climbing to the summit. Long descent over the Hintereisferner to the Hochjoch hospice 2413m.

Day 5: Fluchtkogel 3500m

Over the Kesselwandferner to the upper Guslarjoch 3361m. From here over the short southern flank to the summit. Beautiful descent over the Guslarferner to the Vernagthütte 2755m.

  • Walking time: 5 hours

Day 6: Wildspitze 3772m

Over the Vernagt glacier to the Brochkogeljoch 3423m and over the Taschachferner to the second highest peak in Austria. The sea of peaks of the Ötztal Alps is at your feet. Spectacular descent to Vent. Farewell and journey home.
