Ötztal crossing

Venterrunde, across the Ötztal on skis

Over the highest peaks in the Ötztal Alps in five days. The Venter Runde is a real ski tour classic and is one of the most popular crossings in the Eastern Alps.
The five-day tour, which starts in Vent, leads through the central part of the Ötztal Alps and thus to some of the highest three-thousand-meter peaks in Tyrol.


1 day:

Meeting point at 12 noon in Vent in the Ötztal. Ascent through the Niedertal to the Martin-Busch-Hütte (2,501 m). Dinner and program briefing.

  • Ascent: 600 meters in altitude
  • 3 hours

Day 2: Similaun 3,606 m

Wide glacier floors lead over the Niederjochferner to the beginning of the summit ridge. Here it goes over the ski depot and over the west ridge to the summit. Descent to the Similaunhütte (3,019 m).

  • Ascent: 1,100 meters in altitude
  • Descent: 600 meters in altitude
  • 4-5 hours

Day 3: Finailspitze 3,516 m

Past the Ötzi discovery site to the Hauslabjoch. Ski depot at the foot of the summit structure. On foot over the north ridge to the summit. Descent over the Hochjochferner to the Schnalstaler glacier. Ascent to the beautiful view (2,842 m)

  • Ascent: 700 meters in altitude
  • Descent: 900 meters in altitude
  • 4 hours

4th day: Weißkugel 3.73 m

Ascent to the “butt ice cream”. Later a short descent to the Hintereisferner. Ascent over the long Ferner to the Hintereisjoch (3,471m). Another 200 vertical meters over the southern flank to the ski depot. Over a short ridge in easy climbing to the summit. Long descent over the Hintereisferner to the Hochjoch Hospiz (2,413 m)

  • Ascent: 1,200 meters in altitude
  • Descent: 1,500 meters in altitude
  • 7 hours

Day 5: Fluchtkogel 3,500 m

Over the Kesselwandferner to the Obere Guslarjoch (3,361 m). From here over the short southern flank to the summit. Nice descent over the Guslarferner to the Vernagthütte (2,755 m).

  • Descent: 800 meters in altitude
  • 5 hours

Day 6: Wildspitze 3,772 m

Over the Vernagt glacier to Brochkogeljoch (3,423 m) and over the Taschachferner to the second highest peak in Austria. The sea of peaks of the Ötztal Alps is at your feet. Spectacular descent to Vent. Farewell and journey home.

  • safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
  • master walking with skins and the hairpin
  • Surefootedness
  • Condition of approx. 6-8 hours
