3 days ski crossing in the Hohetauern Vendiger Group National Park

Fantastic high alpine ski tours on the south side of the main Alpine ridge in East Tyrol

Rostocker Eck 2749m, size Geiger 3360m, size Venetian 3657m



Requirements:

  • safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
  • Experience in walking with skins and mastering the hairpin bend
  • Surefootedness
  • Experience in the use of crampons, ice axe
  • Condition of approx. 6-8 hrs

Day 1: Matreier Taurenhaus-Ströden-Rostockerhütte-Rostocker Eck

Meeting point at 8 a.m. at the Matreier Tauernhaus. In a car pool, continue for about 45 minutes. to Ströden in Virgental.

Ascent through Maurertal about 2.5 hours. to the Rostockerhütte 2207m.

After a short rest, easy ski tour in the afternoon to the Rostocker Eck (2,749m) and back to the hut.

Day 2: Rostockerhütte – Gr. Geiger – Johannishütte

After a flat start through the Moor valley, the trail leads steeply up to 2400m to the Geigerscharte. Along the west ridge of the Großer Geiger you finally reach the ski depot at 3250 m and after easy climbing the Großer Geiger (3360 m). The descent leads over the Türmljoch 2845m to the Johannishütte 2121m.

Day 3: Johannishütte – Gr. Venediger – Matreier Tauernhaus

The highlight of our tour days is the ascent of the fourth highest mountain in Austria, the Grossvenediger 3657m. No less impressive is the subsequent descent over the rugged Schlatenkees, past the Neue Pragerhütte down to the flat valley floor. 2,000 impressive vertical meters to the Innergschlöss, the “most beautiful valley head in Austria”. The trail continues almost level on the valley floor for a few more kilometers to the Matreier Tauernhaus 1512m.
