4000s ski touring week around Zermatt

Spitziflue, Allalinhorn, Strahlhorn, Breithorn and Signalkuppe – a delicacy in Valais with grandiose descents



Requirements:

  • safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
  • Experience in walking with skins as well as mastering the hairpin bend
  • Surefootedness
  • Experience in the use of crampons, ice axe
  • Condition of approx. 6-8 hours

1 day:

Meeting point at 6 p.m. at the Hotel Bergfreund in Herbriggen. Welcome and discussion of the tour days


2 day:

Drive to Zermatt, take the cable car to the Blauherd station. Ascent to Spitziflue at 3260m with subsequent descent to Täsch. Return to Herbriggen and overnight in the hotel.

  • Ascent: 720hm / Descent: 1500hm
  • Walking time: 5 – 6 hours

Day 3:

Drive to Saas Fee and take the mountain railway to Mittelallalin. Ascent to the Allalinhorn at 4027m. Descent to the Britania hut at 3030m.

  • Ascent: 600hm / Descent: 1000hm
  • Walking time: 4 – 5 hours

Day 4:

Ascent via the Allalin glacier to the Strahlhorn at 4128m and via the northwest ridge to the summit. Descent from the Strahlhorn over the Adlerpass to Zermatt. A whole 2500hm descent awaits from the Adler-Findel glacier to Zermatt. Return to Herbriggen and overnight in the hotel.

  • Walking time: 8 hours

Day 5:

After breakfast, drive to Zermatt and take the lifts up to Kl. Matterhorn. Ascent to Breithorn at 4126m and subsequent descent via Schwarztor and Schwärzegletscher to Gornergletscher at 2500hm. Subsequent ascent over the Gorner glacier to the Monterosa hut at 2795m

  • Ascent: 800hm / Descent: 2500hm
  • Walking time: 6 – 7 hours

Day 6:

Ascent over the Grenzgletscher to the Signalkuppe at 4554m to the Cabanna Margherita, the highest hut in the Alps. Long descent over the Grenzgletscher and Gornergletscher to Zermatt. Return to Herbriggen and overnight in the hotel.

  • Ascent: 1.750hm / Descent: 2700hm
  • Walking time: 8 hours

Day 7:

Departure after breakfast
