Gran Paradiso: Parade Valais South at its finest


Sunday

Meet at 5 p.m. in Pont in Valsavarenche at the Hotel Gran Paradiso. Discussion of the program.


Monday

Ascent to the Vittorio Emanuelle Hut (2,732 m) approx. 3 hours, 900 meters in altitude. In the afternoon, depending on conditions and weather, short acclimatization tour.


Tuesday: La Tresenta, 3,609 m

Beautiful, promising ski mountain. Ascent over the Montcorve Glacier.

  • 3-4 hours

Wednesday: Gran Paradiso, 4,061 m

Glacier traversal to the Scharte, easy rock ridge climbing to the highest point. Departure into the valley and overnight hotel in Pont.

  • Ascent approx. 1,300 meters in altitude
  • Descent 2,100 meters in altitude
  • approx. 5-6 hours

Thursday: Mantovahütte, 3,400 m

After breakfast we change to Valle Gressoney in Stafal (two-hour drive). Cable car ascent to Punta Indren, on to the high hut at 3,400m

  • Ascent about 2 hours

Friday: five four-thousand-meter peaks

A fantastic day of touring: Vincent-Pyramid (4,215 m), Ludwigshöhe (4,341 m), Parrotspitze (4,432 m), Schwarzhorn (4,321 m), Balmenhorn (4,167 m).

  • Ascent approx. 1,400 meters in altitude
  • about 6 hours

Saturday: Signalkuppe (4,554 m) – Zumsteinspitze (4,563 m)

The Signalkuppe with the highest hut in Europe, the Capanna Margherita. Further to the Zumsteinspitze. Grandiose glacier landscape.
Ascent 1,250 meters in altitude

  • Descent about 3000 meters in altitude
  • approx. 6-7 hours
  • Departure to Gressoney. Departure.

Requirements:
  • safe parallel skiing in all types of snow
  • Walking with skins and switchbacks
  • Surefootedness
  • Experience in using crampons and ice ax
  • Condition of approx. 6-8 hours
